A customer security questionnaire is a sales document in disguise: answer it well and the deal moves, answer it late or thin and it stalls. The work is knowing which answers need evidence, which need a policy that does not exist yet, and which are safely "not applicable."
These questionnaires are written for vendors of every size, which is why half the questions feel alien. The skill is triage: what must be evidenced, what can be honestly committed to with a date, and what does not apply to how you operate. Guessing in either direction costs you — overclaiming creates contract risk, underclaiming loses deals you should win.
This is one of the most common ways an advisory conversation starts. Send the questionnaire, get a straight read on what it will take. Increasingly they also ask about AI use — which is where the one-page AI policy earns its keep.
